Income tax filing completed for another year. I owed, but I knew that was going to happen and I had 95% of what I owed set aside, so no big deal.
I was hoping that I'd overestimated and was going to have a little spare dough sitting around, but no.

Better to owe than be owed. 'Power to the people!'

Indeed.
Refunds are for suckas - I made interest on that money.

True, but I'll gladly take the $1200 from California that I wasn't anticipating!

Thankfully we have PAYE (Pay As You Earn) in the U.K. So the government does all the accounting based on your previous years earnings so if you earned more this year, next years tax code will vary slightly to compensate. I had to do 'self Assessment' for two years when I first came back from the Nederlands, it was an inconvenience to say the least. Thank goodness for PAYE.
